We are taking part in a greenfield fintech project aimed at creating an innovative solution dedicated to the banking sector, which is expected to change the face of the industry.

Need

Backbase provides fintech solutions to more than 120 banking institutions around the world. The main area of activity is the implementation of the EBP (engagement banking platform), which aims to streamline digital financial operations. Due to the rapid growth of the platform and the needs of customers, Backbase decided to establish an R&D center in Poland, and the first step to do so was to find a nearshore partner.

Customer system

The platform provided by the client enables companies in the financial and banking sectors to develop applications, both web-based and mobile, to help achieve their intended goals without interfering with existing systems. The tool helps respond to market needs in UX and mobile banking, especially in the context of trends such as Digital Banking and Digital Sales. With the Backbase platform, banks can provide their customers with applications tailored to each type of device, as well as additional services.

Challenges

  • Establishing a Backbase development center in Krakow and efficiently onboarding a team consisting of Back-End and Front-End developers, mobile solution developers and automation testers.
  • Ensure high-quality security standards for financial services, including by building a team based on individuals with experience in the FinTech and banking sectors.
  • Remote deployment to the project and willingness to work with other project teams.

Solution

Within weeks, 15 specialists joined the Backbase team, including Java, Front-End, mobile technology engineers, as well as software testers and a Scrum Master. After eight months, the cooperation already included two teams, with a total of 40 specialists. The first team, developing the Customer Success project, worked on the mobile area, while the second R&D team created new modules for the Backbase platform.

When implementing new features, Java developers used modern technologies, including Java 11, AWS Cloud, Spring Boot or Kubernetes. The project is implemented based on Agile methodology, and teams have the opportunity to choose the technologies and tools they use on their own. The testers involved in the process ensure that high quality functionality is maintained, providing close to 100% code coverage with unit tests.

The project’s architecture is built entirely on microservices, which makes it easy to manage and make changes to the platform’s functionality. Solutions created by Inetum teams are then implemented by a dedicated team on the client side.
